Client Profile and Challenge

Warner Brothers Entertainment, distributors of the movie “A Scanner Darkly”, wished to bring the experience of the movie to the Second Life community.  I was subcontracted through another development company to create an immersive event where visitors could experience the ‘drug-induced’ visuals that were a prominent element of the movie.

Solution

My role as the designer of the experience was to make visitors feel like they were a part of the movie.  This was accomplished with visual effects to replicate the feelings and emotions of the characters.  Unusual sound clips from the movie, alternating darkness and bright lights, and video clips allowed the visitor to get a glimpse of the movie experience and encouraged them to purchase the DVD upon its release.

Results

The one-night event in Second Life was attended by over 300 residents and the following DVD release of “A Scanner Darkly” was widely successful.
